The author of this book was born in the Woodrow Community south of Lubbock, Texas, on March 27, 1932, the youngest of seven children of Davis West and Maude Estelle Huckabee. He completed grade and high school at Cooper Rural High School in Woodrow, where he also attended the Woodrow Baptist Church. At age seventeen in 1949 he was converted and was baptized into this church.
In 1952 he joined the United States Air Force and after a tour of duty in Korea, in the providence of the Lord, he was posted to Ardmore, Oklahoma, where he first came among independent Baptists. The church of which he was a member in Ardmore sponsored The Orthodox Baptist Institute, a local church institution for the training of pastors and missionaries. In 1959, after three years schooling in this institute he was called of the Lord into the pastoral ministry. He pastored The First Baptist Church, of Kirk, Colorado (1959-1969), Immanuel Baptist Church, of Wellington, Kansas (1969-1982), and has been pastor of Heritage Baptist Church of Salem, Ohio, since 1983.
Elder Huckabee has felt a compulsion to write since he was in High School, and after being called into the pastoral ministry he often preached doctrinal series that he prepared in manuscript form. During his second pastorate he prepared extensive notes on almost all of the New Testament for use in Sunday School. All of these, together with over 250 poems and almost sixty short stories and novels has added up to 9000 pages of manuscript, most of which has never been put into print. He has several tracts and small booklets in print. His largest work to date is his two volume textbook entitled "Studies On Church Truth" that is presently being used in several Baptist seminaries and schools.
He has several completed works, including an extensive commentary on "Studies on the Harmony of the Gospels," a verse-by verse commentary on Romans, "Studies on the Ten Commandments," "Studies on Bible Hermeneutics" (Basic Laws of Bible Interpretation), "Sermons To Baptist Churches," and others that are projected to be printed in the future if the Lord should see fit. Some of these are presently available on some Baptist web sites.
Elder Huckabee has been married to the former Bettye Lou Robertson of Kaufman, Texas, since 1957, and they have a son and a daughter and five grandchildren, all of whom are active in the Lord’s work in their own home towns.
